My Top 8

You may think this to be completely random, but the sooner you get to know me, the better:)  I happen to enjoy randomness and embrace it!  It will probably come to no surprise to you that I love music.  Even saying that is an understatement.  I believe if you were to take a super strong microscope and put a Mare blood sample on a slide, you would see teeny tiny music notes dancing around.  Since the moment I was born music has been the background of my life.  I enjoy most kinds and can appreciate every genre.  My two favourite genres however are pop and country.  This is obvious as I count down my top 8 albums and top 8 songs of 2011.

Top Albums of the Year: (not all of these were released in 2011, but they were my top of the year)

8 - Watch the Throne - Jay Z & Kanye West (Admittedly I was skeptical of this collaboration for a few months but after breaking down and buying it, this record immediately went on repeat.)
7 - Born This Way - Lady Gaga
6 - Talk that Talk - Rihanna (I believe this album would chart much higher in my life had I received it earlier than Christmas!)
5 - Four the Record - Miranda Lambert
4 - 21 - Adele (I know this is number one on most people's lists, but I am a bit different:)
3 - Femme Fatale - Britney Spears (Solid, from start to finish.)
2 - Speak Now - Taylor Swift
1 - Pink Friday - Nicki Minaj

Top Songs of the Year: (I decided to include some singles I bought this year and instantly had on repeat.  If I hadn't shaped the list this way, most of these songs would have been found on my top albums of the year, obviously! In fact, only songs 3 and 4 can be found on my top albums. )

8 - Skyscraper - Demi Lovato
7 - Disaster - JoJo
6 - Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen
5 - Ours - Taylor Swift
4 - Moment of Life - Nicki Minaj ft Drake
3 - We Found Love - Rihanna ft Calvin Harris
2 - Til the World Ends Remix - Britney Spears ft. Ke$ha & Nicki Minaj
1 - Super Bass - Nicki Minaj

Here is a little mix I made of my top three songs:

Happy New Year!  Here's to some great tunes in 2012!

Mama Mare Must Have

It's another edition of my Mama Must Haves!
(If you want to see others, just check out Categories on the left)
This was a gift at my baby shower in June and has been such a lifesaver.  I cannot recommend a play mat of some sort enough!  Some call it a tummy time mat, a play gym etc.  Whatever you want to call it, it is amazing.  I have been using this mat at least once a day, usually more like five times:)  The specific one (and the one in the photo) I have is the "Bright Starts Lion in the Park Activity Gym" and my friend found it at WalMart.  It has toys hanging from it from five loops.  There is also a little shatter-proof mirror that can either stick to the side or loop on the mat itself with velcro.  The bars are bendy with a lot of give.  The mat itself is machine-washable and wears very nicely.  We take this mat everywhere we go, holidays or even just a visit for the day to make sure our son has a place to play.  One disclaimer is that some of the toys you see in the picture are different than the ones this particular mat comes with.  That is actually a bonus I have found.  You can swap the toys that hang down so your child never gets sick of them.
My son has had this mat for six months now and he absolutely loves it.  It's been a fantastic place for him to play while I make dinner.  He's improved his tummy time and rolling on it as well.  Even before he was reaching for the toys he was mesmerized by things hanging over his head.
I can't rave enough about this affordable mat.  A definite must-have in my life as a mama.

Nail of the Day

This is Revlon's Kiss Me Coral.  The picture doesn't really do it justice.  It looked much prettier in the bottle, orange with pink tones and a jewel feel to it.  In some lights it looks very orange and in others pink.  It is very sheer and took three coats but you can still see the white of my nails which I don't like.

Nail of the Day

This is Essie's Brooch the Subject.  I asked for a nude polish for Christmas and received this from my sister-in-law and brother.  It's my first time using Essie and am so far super impressed with the results!

Today's nails are Christmasy!  I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Cherry Red, Joe Fresh in Mallard and Revlon Top Coat in Belle for a little holiday sparkle.

 Are you doing festive nails?

Mama Mare Must Have

One thing I love to do is chat with other moms and get helpful tips. We are all in this together, so why not make it a bit easier on someone else? So, going with that idea, I thought I would start a series of "Mama Mare Must Haves". I think most of them will actually be helpful whether you have kids or are just a busy person in general. Let's face it, who isn't? So here is the first one:)
A must-have is a good bowl with an air-tight lid. The one I have is a red Tupperware bowl. I bought it a couple years ago and at first was turned off by the price. But, I have to say it was worth it. I like to make a salad at the beginning of the week and then take bowls from it every day. Let's be honest here, if you are hungry and want something quick, no way are you going to make a salad. Well at least I'm not. I would much rather grab the Christmas baking taunting me from the freezer. This way, the salad is made and all you have to do is put some in a bowl and drizzle dressing. No real excuses here! It's tough with a busy lifestyle to get the right number of servings of fruit and veg and this really works for me.
This is an example of the salad I am loving lately. It's really simple: green lettuce, scallions, grape tomatoes, celery, carrots, cilantro and feta. I add the feta individually. All through my pregnancy I craved greek salad so I would do the same thing and make a huge one on a Sunday to snack at all week. Ok, now I've had my salad, pretty sure I'm going to enjoy a cookie;)
