Review - Unbroken

This week I am reviewing Demi Lovato's latest album, Unbroken.  I thought it would be fun to listen to her most recent release and tell you what I think because she is going to be seen on the upcoming season of X Factor as a judge, alongside Britney Spears.  I didn't really know much about Demi before listening to this album, except that she had been on Sonny With a Chance on Family Channel, Camp Rock and, that she'd been in rehab.  She's had a pretty eventful life, considering she' s not even 20 yet!

Anyway, on to the album.  It has an impressive list of cameos including Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Dev, Iyaz and Jason Derulo.  Demi also is listed in the writing credits on five songs.  To be honest, at first I expected this to be a teeny-bopper, bubblegummy album that I wouldn't really enjoy.  The first time I listened to it, I wasn't overly impressed.  But, upon second spin, my opinion changed.  There are some pretty fantastic songs on Unbroken.  First, I absolutely love Skyscraper.  It's one of the most played songs in my iTunes library.  The message, the tune, Demi's vocals, it's all superb.  This is a fantastic track if you need a bit of a lift or inspiration.  This album kicks off with a bang with All Night Long featuring Timbaland and Missy Elliott.  How Demi got Missy to record and come out of hiding I will never know, but will be forever grateful!  I wish she'd release this song as a single so we could play it on my radio station.  Who's That Boy featuring Dev is also great.

While Unbroken is definitely geared towards a younger audience, I think you will find some songs that you want to crank and play over and over.  It's Demi Lovato's third album and I think her fourth will have an even more mature sound.  Maybe Britney will influence her while judging together on X Factor.  That show debuts this fall.
