"I just finished ready a very interesting book. It was so good, I blew thru it in about 3 days. The book is “Breakaway” by Tal Pinchevsky. It’s about NHL teams helping Czech and Russian players defect from behind the Iron Curtain in the 80’s to come play in the NHL. It’s easy to forget what players like Peter Statsny, Petr Klima, Slava Fetisov, Sergei Fedorov and many others had to go thru to leave their communist home to come to North America. What they were doing at the time was illegal and if any of them returned home, they would go to jail. And it wasn’t as simple as hoping no one followed you to the airport. Their defections involved midnight meetings in secluded forests, crossing boarders in the trunks of cars and escaping capture by police. If you or someone you know loves hockey books then they’ll love Breakaway. Honestly, even if you aren’t much of a hockey fan but love a good caper, then you won’t be able to put this one down either!"
