Nail of the Day

PS:  I posted a new Vlog this week on my YouTube channel:)
Oh what's that?  Another dark colour?  Yes.  Sorry if that's not your thing, but I am still only liking darks on my finger nails.  (I have bright coral on my toes, does that count?)  Today's NOTD, is Sinful Colours' Secret Admirer.  I am in love!  This super-affordable polish goes on well, wears nicely and also comes in a huge variety of shades.  This seems to be a close dupe for OPI's My Private Jet.  Again, sorry about all the dark NOTD posts lately.  I am trying to will myself to try brighter Spring shades, but so far that's been a total fail!

15 Songs on Shuffle

A few weeks ago there was an interesting hash tag trending on Twitter: #first30songsonshuffle.  This instantly inspired me to play a game with Jeremy and ask him what the first songs would come out on his iTunes on shuffle and what would come out on mine.  Now, instead of giving your 60 songs in total, we decided to each just list off our first 15.
Yes, this is what a husband and wife who are both music-obsessed do for fun!

Here is Jer's run-down:
1 - Stargazer - Tea Party
2 - Put the O Back in Country - Shooter Jennings
3 - Georgia Peaches - Lynryd Skynryd
4 - Accept Crime - Alexisonfire
5 - Snuff - Slipknot
6 - Devils and Dust - Bruce Springsteen
7 - Conversations - Finger 11
8 - Here Comes My Man - The Gaslight Anthem
9 - Run Like Hell - Pink Floyd
10 - Window Shopper - Nickelback
11 - Made in the Shade - Lynryd Skynryd
12 - Brother - Pearl Jam
13 - Oklahoma Sky - Miranda Lambert
14 - The 59 Sound - The Gaslight Anthem
15 - Stumbling In - Great Big Sea

**Interesting notes on Jer's list**
- #8 is currently his favourite song and #14 is his most-played song of all-time
- He has 187 Matthew Good songs, 106 Led Zepplin and 112 from the Foo Fighters and none of those songs showed up in the top 15
- this list makes it very apparent that he diligently edits and modifies his iTunes....mine on the other hand....

Mare's run-down:
1 - From This Moment On - Shania Twain
2 - Let's Do It Again - TLC
3 - Moonshine - Mike Oldfield
4 - Velvet - Fergie
5 - If You Wanna Be Bad, You Gotta Be Good - Bryan Adams
6 - Better Life - Keith Urban
7 - Numb - Pink
8 - What Was I Thinking - Dierks Bentley
9 - Break It Off - Rihanna
10 - Happy XMas - John Lennon
11- Landslide - Dixie Chicks
12 - Princess of China - Coldplay ft. Rihanna
13 - Everything I Do - Bryan Adams
14 - Bad Example - Pistol Annies
15 - Don't Shut Me Out - Keith Urban

**Interesting notes on my list**
- this makes it seem like I am obsessed with Bryan Adams...totally not
- I have hundreds of Britney Spears, zero were chosen
- I am not surprised a Christmas song made it in as I have an extensive collection!

I feel as though Jeremy's shuffle list reflects his music tastes and mine definitely does not!  After playing this game, I went through and deleted about 700 songs.  I needed to clear out some songs I had never played and knew very well I never will.

What do you think would show up on your list?

This isn't my tattoo, but I really like it! I found it on Pinterest.

Sock Bun

I am SO not a hair person.  To be honest, I barely remember to brush my hair!  But yesterday I wore my hair in a sock bun and got SO many requests to explain how I did it.  It's seriously the easiest hairdo and took me about 90 seconds.  I think it looks chic, professional and put together.  When really, it's fourth day hair and I was feeling lazy!

Here's the short, easy tutorial:

Things I Won't Regret

One thing I often struggle with is time management.  I sometimes wonder if I am best using my time when considering my son, my marriage, my home, my career, my friendships and my health.  I am currently working on having more energy because I find myself sluggish too frequently.  (Except at bedtime, then I am wide awake and ready to party!)  There are so many ways to zone out with technology and too often I snap out of it, wondering, "could I be doing something more beneficial?".  On the flip side of that, I will sometimes stop myself after running errand after errand or cleaning or working and say, "is this really necessary?".

And then this list was born.

I am mindful of the fact Thomas' childhood is going to be over before I know it and I want to suck as much out of these years as a family together.  Grand memories, quiet memories and everyday kinda memories.  This has made me realize I will not look back and wish certain things were different:

I will not look back and think, "wow I wish my house had been cleaner".
No.  I will look back and think, "A bit of mess and fun was well worth it".

I will not look back and think, "why didn't I experiment more in the kitchen?".
No.  I will look back and think, "I made good food and kept my family healthy".

I will not look back and think, "man, I wish I had spent more time on Facebook and Instagram".
No.  I will look back and think, "seeing people in real life makes better friendship".

I will not look back and think, "I wish I had done the laundry more".
No. I will look back and think, "I always made we didn't have to go naked".

Do you have any similar thoughts?

Pics Recently

Happy Friday!  I thought I would wrap up the week with a look back at a few of the photos I have posted recently.  I did another one of these posts a couple weeks ago as well.  It's fun to look back and also to show you what has been going on in our lil world.  If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (PS if you don't, you should!) these might look familiar;)
Finally got a much-need bang trim.  I can see again!
This is the book I am reading right now.  It's not at all what I was expecting, as it's less of a story and more of an experiment with facts.  Still enjoying it though and finding little ways to sneak more happiness into my everyday.
Complete pet peeve of mine: Husband leaving the gas tank on empty.
So thankful to have two days with my 10 year old niece this week as she visits on her spring break.  I love seeing these two together.
Yes it might be called "Baby Lips", but that doesn't mean a baby should play with it.  Lesson learned.  Thomas: 1.  Chapstick: 0.

Bath and Body Works Haul

Believe it or not, I was down to using my last soap and burning my final candle from Bath and Body Works when a friend offered to pick me up some things in the states.  Next time she might not offer, after seeing the size of my shopping bag! ;)
Let the haul begin!
(Don't forget to upgrade the video to HD; it looks much better!)
Here is the link for Brooke's Stella and Dot:)  It's a bit dangerous because everything is just so fabulous!

Nail of the Day

I am still on my dark nails kick!  I tried to paint them a fun, green colour for St. Patrick's Day and instantly took it off.  I replaced it with this O.PI. shade from the Skyfall collection: Live and Let Die.  It actually does have a very subtle deep green shade in certain lights with a small amount of shimmer.  Only one coat was necessary to make this polish opaque so it would be a fabulous option in a rush.  I am clearly not a pro when it comes to applying dark polish, so please excuse my application;)  I am not sure when this dark colour obsession is going to subside.  Hopefully, soon so I can share with you some good picks for spring polish!

Review - Justin Timberlake

For this week's review, I am talking the highly-anticipated return of Mr. Justin Timberlake.  This is one of the most talked about albums of 2013.  The 20/20 Experience is out tomorrow (March 19th) with ten songs.  You might think that sounds short, but each song is on average 8 minutes long.  It's a more mature sounding Timberlake and well worth the wait.  It's a new sound, less 'NSync and more Justin.  The album on the whole sounds smooth, with a more R&B feel and has a full sound.  There seems to be a host of instruments with each song building and using a large number of musicians.  Timbaland co-wrote and produced this album and it is very apparent.  You can hear his beats, his voice and his touch on every song.  Timberlake's range of notes and singing ability is in full swing too.  He obviously wanted to wait until he felt inspired and ready to return to music and has done it his way.  This album sounds unlike anything else out right now, which is fabulous.  He continues to set the tone of pop music and pop culture.  The 20/20 Experience has come at the perfect time.  If you love it and can't get enough, don't worry.   It's just been announced Volume Two is coming out in November.  Oh Justin...you keep us wanting more;)

Review - Nina

When I did my Perfume Collection video, I had a host of suggestions of fragrances to try.  Thanks!  I couldn't wait to smell the great perfumes you all love and I started with this one.  The other night I was in Wal-Mart and spotted this fragrance on clearance for $14!  It was marked down from $48 but when researching it I had seen it for as much as $80 and more.  Oh, how I love a deal!  Wal-Mart, Winners, London Drugs and Shoppers Drug Mart can all be fabulous stores to keep an eye out for marked-down scents.  Just a lil tip;)  Sometimes the downfall can be that these stores don't always have a tester to smell.  I like to either smell them elsewhere and then keep an eye out for a deal, or live on the wild side and risk it!  (Oh I am such a daredevil, haha!)
The fabulous deal I scored was on Nina by Nina Ricci, which was on my list of recommendations from my lovely YouTube friends.  It's described as

"Nina, a Fresh Fruity Floral fragance with a promise of enchantment with a radiant power of seduction. Sparkling and spontaneous top notes: Caipirinha Lime - Calabrese Lemon; Dual facetted middle notes: Red Toffee Apple / Vanilla Infusion - Peony Petals / Moon Flower; Elegant base notes : Apple Tree Wood - Cotton Musk."

It's more sophisticated than some of my other fragrances and one that will be appropriate year-round.  Fresh and light, yet warm and smooth.  I love it!  Turns out it is the signature scent of one of my close girlfriends, who has fabulous taste.  Let's predict this will be the scent I reach for frequently this Spring!
Do you have any favourite scents I should try?

No Pressure, No Diamonds

Anyone else ever feel like life can just overwhelm you to no end at times?  I've never had so many things going on in my life as I do right now.  Without this bad boy, I would be lost!  I make sure to write down all appointments, goals, important dates and just pretty much whatever else I need to remember.  It eases my mind a bit to know it's written down.  Many of you asked me to explain what planner I use, how I use it and if I find it helpful.  Here you go!
Oh, and...TGIF!!

Songs On Repeat

I don't dare jinx it, but I do believe we might be slowly moving into warmer days.  Yesterday I took Thomas for a walk wearing only a hoodie.  Heaven!
I love getting out on a walk.  It gives T a change of scenery, the chance to learn about new things he sees, and me the chance the get some exercise, fresh air and listen to some tunes.  Bringing my iPod helps push me.  Yesterday I pretty much had one song (Band Perry) on repeat and so I thought I would share with you the tracks I have been loving lately:
What songs are you loving?  What should I check out?

Wise Word Wednesday

Good morning!  I just love this quote and had to share.  It echoes a sentiment that keeps in popping up in my day-to-day.  Malcolm Gladwell has a success theory that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master anything.  Now, I haven't read his book Outliers but this is where the theory is published.  But there is a song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis called 10,000 Hours which I love and in her autobiography (From This Moment On) I am currently reading, Shania Twain references this theory too.  This resonates with me because I like to believe hard work pays off.  Today's quote is perfect:

How I Grocery Shop & A Haul

You know me by now...I like to be organized, I am a planner and I like to save money.  All these traits lead into a very logical explanation on how I buy our groceries.
Every weekend we shop for the whole week, planning what we will have for six dinners, lunches and breakfast.  For us, this is the most cost-effective and simple way to eat.  I like not having to think every day and guess every meal what I can make.  Taking the guess work out is such a relief!
I have been asked to do this video, explaining how I plan, how I shop and budget for food.
I hope it helps!

Nail of the Day

Today's Nail of the Day is Essie's Wrapped in Rubies.  Now, just by the name I was hooked!  Also, this was (and still is) half price at Superstore.  When I featured Wrapped in Rubies in a Haul Video, many of you raved about it, saying it is your go-to for Christmas.  I couldn't agree more!  It's a deep red with gold and bronze undertones.  It doesn't scream spring, but it is rich and beautiful.  I painted my nails Friday night and took this picture Monday morning.  Still looking good!
