After a recommendation from my mum, Jer and I watched Forks Over Knives. It was suggested to me at a very opportune time because for the past month I have been more aware of the food I eat and dabbling in some vegetarian dishes. I have always eaten a lot of meat, being raised on the idea of a meat, veg and a starch at dinner. But I just haven't been feeling 100% this year and finally decided to take a hard look at the food I am eating.
Anyway, rambling!
We watched this movie which follows this train of thought:
"The experts in Forks Over Knives advocate a whole-food,
plant-based diet. The program is based on whole or minimally processed
plants, primarily fruits, vegetables, whole grains, tubers, and legumes.
It excludes or minimizes animal-based foods such as meat (including
poultry and fish), dairy, and eggs, as well as refined foods like
bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil."
It was eye-opening that is for sure. You can read more about it via the link above, but basically the doctors in this documentary have found the health benefits of a plant-based diet to be exponential. Some of it wasn't new information, obviously cutting out fast food and processed foods is a good idea. But to see the correlation of meat and disease was shocking.
I think I will continue to research and find alternative protein sources to red meat and just see what happens. I can't deny how much better I feel on the days when I don't have certain meat products.
Have you seen this? Do you eat meat? I am so new to this I would love to hear!
I've never heard of this. I think it would be super hard for me. There are some days where I just crave meat.
ReplyDeleteYour timing is a little funny when other YouTubers you follow are now vegetarians as well.
