I have been friends with this face for more than 20 years. More than 2/3 of my life! So it really should come as no surprise that she emailed me with an idea that mirrors one I had been contemplating. Great (redheaded) minds think alike and all.
Here's part of the email Shan sent me:
"I have challenged myself to not buy any clothing or shoes until I have worn
*everything* I already own at least once or until Boxing Day. Whichever
comes first. I'm not including summer clothes or formal wear since I
probably won't get a legitimate chance to wear those in the next few
months."
Instantly I was IN!!! I also have a lot of clothes that I don't wear. Why do I keep these? I would be much better off either consigning or donating. Shan explained how she was going to keep track of what she's worn:
"I've put those tiny hair elastics around the hooks
of all my hangers and bobby pins on all my folded clothes and shoes.
When I wear something, the elastic/bobby pin comes off. Come Boxing Day,
anything that hasn't been worn is being consigned or going to the
thrift store. I figure one of two things will happen: I'll be able
to purge a lot of unnecessary stuff from my closet, or I'll get more
creative and start getting into making much better use of my wardrobe
and won't feel so bored with the stuff I already have."
I think my favourite part of this challenge will be to get creative and find new outfits, pairings and ways to reinvent clothes. Also, it will be beneficial once and for all the know that every single piece in my wardrobe is wearable.
So....what do you think? Interested? Want to join us? I am going to be doing updates over the next few months, videos, pictures and posts to see how it is going.
Oh I am totally in! This is a great idea!
