MareReviews: Gravity

We always try to see as many Oscar nominated movies before the awards are handed out, but I wasn't overly motivated to see Gravity.  From the previews it didn't look like something I would really enjoy and in fact, I thought it looked cheesy.
Wrong.
Jeremy was very excited to see Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in this flick so we watched it Saturday night, the day before the Oscars.
Wowzers.  This movie blew any expectations out of the water (or maybe I should say atmosphere) and kept me on the edge of the couch the entire time.  It's the story of a woman and man who are astronauts and their space mission goes horribly wrong.  There's no subtle, slow lead up to the action.  The movie opens and they are already floating around in space.  I kept waiting for a reprieve, a flashback, a moment to breathe.  There is none of that.  You are instantly hooked and terrified.  I don't think I took a breath until the credits rolled!  We watched Gravity from the comfort of our home and I can't even imagine seeing it on the big screen or in 3D!  I actually think it would have made me nauseous.
Sandra Bullock's performance is unlike anything we've seen her in.  She's vulnerable, yet strong. Gravity made me hold my breath for the entire 90 minutes.  It won 7 Academy Awards and is definitely worth checking out.

  1. I was totally the same. Only went because Derek wanted to see it, but I expected it to be super dull. Totally wrong! Shan

  2. I saw it in 3D and I have vertigo and it definitely made me a bit queazy but it was really good and totally made me cry, especially being a mom.

  3. I didn't like it that much to be honest. I think it could have been better with unknown actors rather than Bullock and Clooney. I found it to be too slow at times, and almost dragged out.

  5. I agree with Ashley....we kept waiting for something more to happen and were a little disappointed that Clooney wasn't in the film as much. I don't think it was worthy of all the praise it received.
