VlogMare - Getting Lash Extensions

I got eyelash extensions for the first time yesterday and thought it would be fun to vlog (obvi).  Here's the video.  I uploaded in HD, so please let me know if you watch in HD and if it makes a difference.
Kristie was awesome and if you want to check out these extensions for yourself, you can find more information on her website.

Shout Out Saturday

You made it to the weekend.  Bravo, you.  Sometimes on a Tuesday I start to truly believe the weekend will never arrive.  Then when it does, I panic and think, "oh no! Please don't go so quickly!".
I digress.
Welcome to another Shout Out Saturday.
A friend of mine posted this artice on Facebook yesterday and it resonated with me deeply.  My friend Jess visited for five days this week and of course we had countless great conversations.  Many of our talks surrounded motherhood and its struggles.
I love this article for reminding us all that we are not alone:

The author writes about being a mother and being tightly wound, so much so that she thinks she's the only one having a tough time.  It's a great read for all parents or parents-to-be.

Wise Word Wednesday

"There are people in your life who make you feel great about yourself. Keep them around. For as long as possible. Then there are people who will drain your life force, drop by drop, because making you feel empty makes them feel full. Life is a little screwed up like that. But you have a choice today, and every day until your last day on Earth, when you find yourself in the company of someone who makes you feel fat or stupid or ugly or worthless or untalented to say, perhaps not even aloud, 'You're a real jerk and I want absolutely nothing to do with you. Have a nice life, because I'm outta here.'"

MareReads: The Reboot With Joe

I know it's no longer Friday, but I wanted to share this MareReads video today.  I reviewed Joe Cross' book and talked about whether I would ever do a juice fast:

Mare's Music Monday

Miranda Lambert's latest album Platinum was released last month and it's pretty much been on repeat in our house since.  Both my husband and I love Miranda and so it was a no-brainer that we'd be picking up this album.  Platinum does not disappoint.  It's a fabulous country album complete with songs that are sassy, fun, touching, smart and thought-provoking.  She's always been a song-writer which definitely makes a difference for me.  I like to know that what an artist is singing is actually from their heart.  She has some fun guests on the album like Little Big Town and Carrie Underwood.  The fun thing about Miranda Lambert is that she manages to pay homage to old school country while remaining current and appealing to a younger crowd.  Some of my favourites on the album are "Something Bad", "Kitchen Sink" and "Platinum".  She's absolutely one of my favourites and I can't get enough of Platinum!  Now, if she could just come near me so I could fangirl at a concert, that would be greatly appreciated ;)

Shout Out Saturday

This week's Shout Out Saturday is extremely timely as this lil gem arrives tonight for a five day visit!  Jess has been my close friend for nine years.  We have matching tattoos. She was my Maid of Honour, I was her's and is the person I've spoken to a few times almost every week for years.  What's unique about our friendship though is that we've only lived in the same city for about five months.
Actually, there are many unique aspects of our strong bond.  Jess and I were at BCIT at the exact same time, studying every day in the same building but never crossed paths.  We even had a class together but never met!  She did her practicum at the radio station I was working at and in that short month, our love blossomed:)  I am very picky with my friendships and Jess stood out immediately.  She moved on but ended up taking a job at my radio station the next year and moved in with me for five glorious months before I took another job in another city.  That's it.  We've only lived in the same town for a few months yet our friendship has been steady ever since.
Jess has been on the other end of hundreds of hours of conversations, emails and texts, never complaining when I lament over the same things constantly.  But, she's one of the few people who will call me out on things and I really respect that.  Jess is straight-up and will tell me if something is wrong.  No games played with this one, which I love!  She taught me how to scrapbook and drink wine and is always ready to watch an awards show.  I am so excited for the next five days with this Saucy Wench, to meet her daughter for the first time, to see our kids play together and for hours of girl talk.  When it comes to friendships love the saying, "I'd rather have ten dimes than a hundred pennies".  Jess is definitely a dime.
A ten :)

Nail of the Day

Looking for a bright, fun, neon pink for summer? Look no further! Today's Nail of the Day is Orly's Beach Cruiser.  This was a recommendation from my friend Emilie.  She's been chatting about nail polish so much lately that I've bought a few bottles thanks to her!  (We may or may not text about nail polish on the regular.)  The photo doesn't reflect how bright this polish is.  It's a stunner, especially in natural light! The formula wasn't my favourite.  This is three coats plus a top coat (as I always use).  The first two coats from my bottle were a bit streaky but once it dried, wowza!  I am very impressed with the finished product. I think this will be a staple this summer on both my fingers and toes!

Shout Out Saturday

Welcome to another random yet fun Shout Out Saturday!  I mentioned this in my June Favourites Video but I thought it deserved its own shout out.  This is my current bookmark.  It was a gift from a generous colleague of mine that he bought at a fundraiser for our annual Radiothon.  A local calligraphers guild sells these to raise money for our local hospitals, writing whatever word you want on the bookmark.  Obviously, I opted for 'love'.  I received this bookmark on May 3rd and have been noting on the back the books I've read since:
My colleague Ryan had a similar bookmark last year and he tallied the number of books he read in a year which I thought was a great idea.  I am doing it a bit differently as you can see and writing out the title of each book.  I've never tracked my reading before and so far, I am loving it!  I've read six books since May 3rd and have just started my seventh.  This will also make it easier to recommend a book to friends as well as note my books of the year in my 2014 Favourites Video.  Do you keep track of the books you read?  I am really enjoying this so far! Nail of the Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day! Of course I am celebrating with a patriotic manicure ;)  I wanted to do one hand red and the other white.  My red hand is this polish.  The white polish I used is from Sally Hansen Hard as Nails XTreme Wear in White On.  It can be very tough to find a white polish that is opaque and not streaky.  Look no further!  This is two coats and that is it.  I've been wearing it for days now with no chips and I can't stop staring at my left hand.  I can see this becoming a summer staple, especially as white manicures are so hot this year!
Happy Canada Day!
