Huge September Empties

I often feel like a crazy person, keeping my trash and then talking about it on the internet.  But, it is satisfying to see that I actually do use up products.  Doing these monthly empties videos has really helped me take better inventory of what I buy.

For example, I never have more than two or three candles ready to be lit.  I like to burn what I have and then go back to the store to stock up.  You might be mistaken, considering how many Bath and Body Works hauls you see on my channel.  But I am using the products, and these videos keep me accountable.

I have also noticed my makeup purchases have decreased significantly.  It takes forever to finish a product, so why not enjoy it and use it, instead of rushing on to the next thing?

I had a lovely comment on this video from Tracy:

I am always SO excited to see your empties videos on my newsfeed (well any of your videos, really - let's be honest)! Another amazing empties video! You always inspire me to use up what I actually have instead of buying new products! Hugs!

Thanks Tracy! I hope many of you feel the same way. Even if you aren't going to film yourself, keep those empties for a while and reflect. Did you like it?  Was it a pain to finish? You may also feel a sense of accomplishment, finishing something:)

Mare's Music Monday

I almost fell off my chair when I first stumbled across news that these two had teamed up to create a new group with an album coming.  I've been a fan of both Pink and Dallas Green of City and Colour for years and now to hear that they have created You + Me is unbelievable!
You + Me has an album out October 14th, just a few short weeks away, and they already have released two songs, You and Me & Break the Cycle.  It's definitely a different sound for Pink, with a more folk, acoustic vibe.  The tone is very calming.  I hope in future songs Dallas' voice is highlighted because I think he's equally talented.  Rose Ave will be an album I buy the day it's released.
This is a very telling video as they explain how the group came to be:

Nail of the Day

I am not someone who gets excited about nail polish collections and releases. (Shocking, I know!) I often find them to be repetitive and nothing special.  But when I am drawn to a unique colour...there is no stopping me!  This past month Essie released their fall collection and I kind of instantly wanted them all!! But, I showed restraint (and awkwardly looked up photos in the WalMart aisle) and picked up two.  Obviously I will be sharing Nail of the Days on them both, so let's start today!
This is Essie's Fall in Line.  It's an olive green with a hint of grey.  It doesn't dazzle in the bottle, but on the nails is beautiful.  This is the second week in a row I've worn this polish.  This NEVER happens! The firs time I applied Fall in Line I only did one coat. What?!? This photo is two coats, only because I was curious if it made a difference. One coat is totally fine. This is the second Essie polish I've tried in a row that only needed one coat.  (The other was Midnight Cami.) Kind of perfect for the girl in a rush!

20th Anniversary of Friends Debut

Can you believe today is the 20th anniversary of the day the first ever episode of Friends aired?  In 1994 I definitely was not allowed to watch this show, but I now own all ten seasons and couldn't even estimate how many times I've watched the series in its entirety.  It is such a smart, engaging show that every time I watch the series, a different character emerges as a stand-out.  I think most people can relate to a part of each of the main six.  Honestly, watching Friends is like comfort food to me.  I gravitate towards the gang when I need something on the tv to relax or for a good laugh.  It's mind-boggling how many times I've watched the series, yet it still makes me laugh out loud!
Who is your favourite?  Do you have a favourite episode?
I can't actually pick one episode because there are so many gems!
But here is a definite stand out:
I have a feeling I am going to take a break from Netflix and bust out my DVDs to watch the series all over again.

Headphones With Heart

This week's Shout Out Saturday is one that I could gush about for hours.  I first mentioned these in my Vegas Haul, but I had to dedicate an entire blog post to them!
These are my LSTN headphones.  I first heard about LSTN in a commercial that airs before many YouTube videos.  It's actually explaining how well YouTube advertising works, which is ironic because I was instantly hooked!  The ad begins with a woman hearing for the first time as her cochlear implant is activated.  It makes me tear up every time.
With every pair of headphones sold, LSTN helps restore the hearing of a person in need.  In under two years, LSTN has been able to give the gift of sound to over 15,000 people in the U.S., Peru, Kenya and Uganda. The Starkey Hearing Foundation is nothing short of amazing and inspiring.  With our Canadian health care system, we often take for granted what others can never imagine. After reading their story and what they stood for, I knew I HAD to get my hands on a pair!
Coincidentally, I have been wanting a new pair of cans for about six months.  As a music lover and radio dj, I am incredibly picky about sound quality and so when I listened to these I was THRILLED at how great they sound!  My headphones are the Beech Wood Troubadours.  Each pair is made from real wood and there are many variations to choose from.  They also have smaller headphones and earbuds. (In case you are wondering, LSTN has no idea who I am, I am just in love with them!) If you are looking for good quality headphones with heart, I recommend LSTN.  It feels good knowing I have helped such an important cause, close to my heart.  Plus, it makes my Taylor Swift sound incredible! ;)

Songs on Repeat

I am absolutely loving some of the music that's coming out at the moment.  There are many albums I am eagerly anticipating, and so you can expect some Mare's Music Monday reviews to return this fall!  To tide me over, I've been listening to these songs on repeat:

Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
(Obviously! It's a good thing I don't get charged per listen on this one!)
Somebody Loves You - Betty Who
(Emilie used this to end her Vlogust series and I just love it!)
You and Me - You + Me
(This super duo is getting its own blog post soon. I can't even believe they formed a group!!)
Heaven Knows - The Pretty Reckless
(I have a little rock side to me and have been getting into this band lately.)
Life of the Party - Shawn Mendes
(We featured this song on our radio station this summer and I think it's beautiful.)

What songs do you have on repeat?

10 to Zen

I find scrolling through my Facebook news feed is getting increasingly negative and draining. Anyone else feel that way? It's quickly becoming my least favourite social media.  But, I do love some of my Facebook friends who continually post uplifting and positive statuses!  I look forward to seeing what they have to say and what quotes they post.  As you know, I am quite the quote junkie! This turned up on my feed this morning and I think it's simple, yet effective.
How many of these points could you work on?

3 Things You Will Always Find in My Purse

I was tagged by my beautiful friend Emilie to do this post.  You can see what she carries in her purse on her blog

For me, there are a few beauty items you are guaranteed to find in my purse.  In fact, I switch them back and forth between my purse and diaper bag, depending on the occasion.

First, lip balm.  I am forever with lip balm.  You will also find a container in my kitchen, bathroom, bedside table, desk at work, desk at home...you get the idea!  Currently I am loving the Smith's Rose Salve lip balm:
Second, perfume.  I despise feeling like I don't smell fresh and love to reapply throughout the day.  If I have a meeting or an appointment, a little freshen up wakes me up and prepares me for what's coming.  I switch the fragrance but you will always find a roller ball in my bag.
Third, blotting paper.  I also do not like to feel oily or shiny.  I have oily skin and definitely need to re-touch my powder every afternoon.  Now, I used to carry powder and a brush, but after having too many break and spill, these papers are a much less messy option!  I love the ones from Mary Kay as well.  They are very inexpensive and last for months.  Quick as a wink they blot the oil from your face, leaving your makeup in tact.

I hope you have enjoyed this little peek into my purse.  Let me know if you would like to see a post on three non-beauty items, or an updated What's In My Bag video.  Here is a link for my most recent bag video

Nail of the Day

It's been a while since I've posted a Nail of the Day, so I thought I would share a polish I tried recently. This is Midnight Cami from Essie.  It is a beautiful deep navy blue colour.  I love that it almost looks black but has a hint of blue.  What you are seeing in this photo is one coat.  ONE!  It would be a great polish to put on if you are in a rush.  I am not the most proficient at applying nail polish, but hopefully you can ignore that!
I really loved this polish and am loving Essie in general lately.  It was eye-catching, easy to apply and unique.  My only problem with the colour is that it stained my nails.  I used a base coat, but it still made my nails blue.  That was disappointing.  But, I used pale purple and blue to paint my nails after this shade it was completely fine.  You can't see the stained blue at all.
My overall verdict?  I will be keeping this colour and I predict it will be a staple in my fall rotation.  A little staining can't scare me ;)

VEGAS BABY!

Thank you for being patient with my blog while I took a couple weeks off.  And also thank you to everyone who enjoyed the posts that went up while I was away. Jeremy and I took a vacation and met two other couples in Vegas!  It was my first time and quite the experience:)
I vlogged the entire trip, obviously ;) I have made a playlist with all the vlogs and my haul for you to enjoy.
Also, I had a ton of questions asking for tips and advice, so here is my video
