Wise Word Wednesday

Sandra Bullock has an Oscar under her belt and the title of World's Most Beautiful Woman but she has some advice for her younger self. The 50-year-old tells People,
"I wish I could go back and tell myself to not worry so much. I wasted so much time with worry. I wish I could get it back.
Worrying used to be very paralyzing for me, and now I can talk myself off the ledge."

A Simple Black Tank

Today is my last blog post in a series of three for Something Pretty Boutique.  I wanted to show how easy it is to take a simple black tank top and accessorize.  If you have seen my outfits of the day on my social media, you will know that my style is very simple.  I like to keep things easy and comfortable, yet put-together.  I think it's incredibly simple to look nice but still feel my best and not uncomfortable.  You just never know who you are going to run into whether it be a future boss or a friend!  I need to be able to sit through work, play with Thomas and still feel pretty.  A simple black tank is essential for this.  I liked this one from Something Pretty because it's very long and flowing, yet still flattering.  I've paired it with three different accessories from the boutique to showcase just how easy it is to put together a look.
This stretchy belt has snaps in the back.  I love the woven detail and how it instantly gives me shape.
These earrings are so light it feels like I am not wearing anything!  These are perfect for a simple black tank, either dressed down with jeans or dressed up with a skirt or leather leggings.  The blue and gold really pop with the black.  These versatile earrings will be a staple for me this season!
I am such a fan of a long chain necklace.  I think they are slimming and eye-catching.  What is easier to throw on than a necklace!  It sends a message that even though my tank is simple, I have put thought into my look.

4 Simple Ways to Tie a Scarf

Welcome to another post for Spring fashion!  I've learned that a scarf is all the rage this Spring.  We've become accustomed to wearing infinity scarves the past few years but a regular long scarf is making a comeback.  I love the versatility of a light scarf, especially in this time of year.  See below how I've tied this mint and yellow scarf from Something Pretty a few different ways. (The black tank is also from Something Pretty!)

Kimono: 3 Ways

I am excited to share a series of blog posts with you this week as I have partnered with Something Pretty Boutique.  Today I am loving this beautiful Spring-inspired colourful kimono.  I have never dabbled in a kimono but am learning how easy they are to wear!  I love how comfortable this piece is.  It's a lighter cover to wear this time of year and would even be perfect for the summer as a beach cover-up.  I am showing it in three different outfits today.
The above is a casual yet dressy approach.  I think this would be perfect for the office or a lunch date.
This is one I actually wore yesterday!  It is perfect for running errands or taking the kids to the park.  It's simple and comfortable, yet stylish and more dressy than a hoodie or baggy sweater.
This is a fun way to dress up a kimono for date night!  I love the mix of light Spring in the kimono with the all black ensemble complete with heeled booties.  Wearing this piece makes me feel girly, light and fresh!

Food Friday

Today's Food Friday post is dedicated to one of our family's staples: peanut butter.  I've never been picky but my husband Jeremy was raised on Skippy Crunchy and so that is what we always had in the cupboard.  I love peanut butter with apple for a snack and both Jer and Thomas love peanut butter sandwiches.  We go through so many containers of these a month!  I always thought it was a nice option for protein until I read the ingredients.  Have you ever looked to see what is in peanut butter? ICING SUGAR for one!!! What??!? Here I was thinking I was serving our family a nice product and I couldn't believe the amount of sugar we were eating.
I immediately looked at labels the next time in the grocery store and settled on Adam's 100% Natural Peanut Butter.  We personally love the chunky, but as you see in the photo, it also comes in smooth.  The ingredients in this? Peanuts.
That's it!
No added sugar, salt, oil or anything.  I assumed it would be pricey but it's actually usually cheaper than our previous choice.  I don't notice a change in taste and neither does Thomas.  Jeremy has come around too and now this is the only peanut butter we eat.
I encourage you to check the label of your favourite and give a peanut-only option a try.  Now I feel much better eating this and serving it to my family!

Mommy Guilt.

Mommy Guilt.  We've all felt it as parents at one point or another.  You decide to take a luxurious bath.  You feed your daughter drive-thru.  You check your phone at the playground.  That guilt creeps into your stomach or your heart and lays claim.
I have been seeing so many posts regarding mommy guilt on social media lately.  It has also come up in many of my conversations with girlfriends.  So, I decided to talk to an expert.
Yesterday I had Erin Acton on my show.  She's a Life and Business Coach.  I thought today I would share the interview:

Wise Word Wednesday

"I was born with so many health issues that doctors told my mother I would never have a normal life," Hyland, 24, tells Seventeen. "And she said, 'You're right, she won'tbut it won't be because of her health.' When my mother told me that story, it resonated with me:

If I can't have an ordinary life, I might as well have an extraordinary one."

Easy DIY Couch Cushions

I am thrilled to share this post with you today!  I recently revamped our couch cushions and it was so easy that I just had to share.
This is our couch in our main living room.  We bought it second-hand six years ago when we first bought this place.  It's always been very comfortable and maintained wear and tear easily.  But, after six years I was ready for a change.  The couch (and its matching chair) came with large, over-stuffed cushions.  While they matched the furniture, I never found them very comfortable.  The amount of actual sitting room was reduced by about half.  I have been toying with the idea of ditching the back cushions for about a year now.  I also wanted to add some colour and freshen up the space.
So, I decided to switch it up with some throw pillows, but wasn't willing to pay for new ones. $50 for a pillow?!?! What?!
I have never been very good with a sewing machine, or a needle and thread for that matter.  So I knew that sewing cushions from scratch was not an option for me.
I looked around thrift stores but I never found anything perfect.
Then, inspiration hit!
I wanted to get rid of the back cushions and didn't want to store them, so why not use them? All I did to create this brand new look was buy pillow cases (much cheaper) and fill them with the stuffing from the original cushions. It was incredibly easy and cost-effective! I saved the cases from the cushions in case we ever give away the couch and the new owner wants them.
I absolutely love how this turned out!  I can also use the stuffing for other pillows if I ever want to change them for different seasons.
The pillow cases are from IKEA and were about $6-8 each. I also bought one from Target with the letter M on it and have one on each of our other chairs in the room.
Voila! An easy DIY change to brighten the living room at a very low cost!
