My One Thousandth Post

 This is my 1,000th post.

It's incredible to think I have hit 'publish' 999 times.

Much like my YouTube Channel, I started this blog in 2011 while on maternity leave as a creative outlet.  I missed being on the air and wanted a way to connect with you.  Never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted the impact these projects would have on my future.

You've watched Thomas grow from a baby into a little boy preparing for Kindergarten.

You've shared in our family's celebrations and hardships.

You've followed our mental health journey.

You've comforted us as Thomas was diagnosed with Autism.

You've watched more than 500 videos.

You've participated in four seasons of Vlogmas.

You've been inspired with weekly quotes.

You've been there as I got two different tattoos.

You've tried new recipes with me.

You've discovered new music.

You've been welcomed into the radio studio on countless occasions.

You've met my family and friends.

You've laughed with me.

You've shed tears with me.

Thank you for being here as I click 'publish'.

Changes are coming to this page and my channel; I can't wait for you to be here to share more moments with me.

New Beginnings

It's the first day of Spring and with the turning of a new season, I feel an air of change.  We made it through the cold, dark days of Winter and now the promise of something new awaits.

We will feel the sun on our faces.

A warm breeze will float through our hair.

We will hear the birds, smell the earth as it thaws and see blooms on the trees.

It's as if the world awakens after a long hibernation.

This winter was the darkest I've ever experienced.  When I am ready I will share with you what happened and how I am slowly rebuilding my soul.

I feel a real sense of hope and warmth with the change of season, more than ever before.

If you are in a dark place, point your face towards the sun, whatever that is for you.  Music, a friend, a cup of tea, a comforting scent.  Breathe deeply and remind yourself that after the cold dark Winter, the bloom of Spring always arrives.

Mare's Music Monday

I think I am late to the game with James Bay, but I am here now and I am all in! I first saw Bay perform at the Grammys with Tori Kelly and I instantly had to hear more. I quickly bought his entire album, Chaos and the Calm, and it's been in high rotation ever since. I'm not usually one to listen to new music that is guitar-heavy, but Bay is different. His sound is soothing and one that I have been gravitating towards for weeks. Some of the stand out tracks for me are Hold Back the River, Best Fake Smile, Move Together and Let it Go:
I love listening to this album when I am chilling out, writing in my journal and needing some calm. His voice and sound relax me but also at the same time make me want to get up and move! This is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time, from someone I had never heard of before. I think James Bay appeals to people of all ages and those with a range of music tastes.
What album would you like me to review next?

Mare's Music Monday

I have had Troye Sivan's Blue Neighbourhood on repeat now for a couple months.  It's been a staple in my car, in my headphones when I walk and in my house when I am working.  The sound is unlike anything I have heard before.  This Australian started as a YouTuber and now is having international success with his debut album.  He's appeared on Ellen and The Tonight Show.  (Click the links to see those performances.)  Sivan's sound is very electronic but in a soothing way.  It's a mix of ballads and up-tempo tracks but I find it to be the perfect soundtrack for all kinds of situations.  His voice isn't comparable to anything I have heard and it's like a breath of fresh air from the pop music I have been listening to recently.  His lyrics are fresh as well.  The song Blue is one of the stand outs for me:
I also love Wild, Youth, Fools and Ease.  There isn't one song I skip, actually!
