Sharing My Mind

I am becoming more open about my struggles with mental health and in doing so, I am blown away by how many people in my life, are fighting a similar battle. It's encouraging how open we are becoming in discussing our mental health as we would our physical health.  What's that saying...shared sorrow is half the sorrow but hidden sorrow is doubled?  Well I am sure it's much more eloquent than that, but you get the idea.  Recently Jeremy and I spoked at a huge event hosting Ted Talks' Kevin Breel.
I also had the honour of hosting a mental health event last month where youth shared their stories.  I was absolutely blown away by their bravery and composure.  Teens practicing mindfulness and meditation.  How incredible is that? I am only learning these skills in my thirties.  I have so much respect for these young adults and so much hope for their future.  Back in my day we didn't dream of talking about mental health.  This is changing and to that I say bravo!
This event will be broadcast on our local Shaw Channel:
Tuesday June 14 at 2pm
Thursday June 16 at 8am
Saturday June 18th at 9am

This video was created by students at my alma matter.  It speaks for itself.
I was honoured to meet the students behind the video.
There is always someone who will listen.  If you feel like no one could ever understand how you are feeling or what you are going through, I assure you that is not the case.  There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about when it comes to your mental health.  Seek out someone who you trust and who will listen.  I have made myself feel like a burden and not wanted to share, but when I find the courage to talk, it always takes a massive weight off.
You are worth it.
And I will continue to share my mind so you are constantly reminded by this one that you are not alone and you are worth it.

  1. It is always good to share the struggles in life's journey. We all have them and can all learn from others. Great job.
